About Us

The Hunter Bisset Gallery exhibits and deals in a broad range of contemporary original art, featuring the work of BC artists. With a dynamic schedule of group shows, solo exhibitions, and interactive events, the Hunter Bisset Gallery provides art lovers, collectors, and first time buyers with a wide scope of media, style, and technique.

Since opening, in the Summer of 2010, the focus of the Hunter Bisset has been to show quality work in an atmosphere that is welcoming and accessible to everyone. Emerging, mid-career, and established artists hang their work side by side, and every interested buyer will be able to find something that they love in their price range.

The gallery also hosts an ongoing schedule of classes and other interactive opportunities. Information about all of these will appear and be frequently updated on our Facebook page, which you can access by clicking the link button on our Home Page, or through Facebook itself: The Hunter Bisset Gallery

Cheryl Hunter is an experienced artist and businessperson, and has taken on the challenge of running a gallery, intending to combine these two skill sets.

“I’m looking to create that perfect mix: where expression and understanding meet, I guess. Where you may be challenged by the art, but you might also want to take the time to figure it out, enjoy it, let it move you, have some fun.

I know that fun, is not usually something associated with art, or galleries. And that’s too bad. A lot of people think that the gallery experience is necessarily dry or serious - and unfortunately a lot of people assume that the overall concept of art and galleries or museums is somehow out of their league. That just shouldn’t be true. Sometimes art is serious, sometimes it’s silly. Sometimes it is deeply fraught with meaning and inherent questions or information. Sometimes it’s just pretty to look at. You don’t need a master’s degree to enjoy it, to feel something. And you shouldn’t need a million dollars to have an original piece of art in your life. There are certainly expensive, valuable pieces here, and some fabulous, very affordable pieces as well. The point, for me, is to provide access to artists and art appreciators - experienced or new. I love to learn from other people, and if I can help anyone understand better what they are looking at, I love that too. Just ask. Sometimes all it takes is that little extra bit of information or insight, and people light up, because they get it. They get it, and suddenly it doesn’t seem so weird, or out there, or written in code anymore. A connection gets made. That’s so great.”
